*** FINAL WEEKEND TO DROP OFF ITEMS! ***
SUPPORTING NEW MOTHERS AND THEIR NEWBORNS AT VILLA ROSA
Our parish community is taking part in an effort led by the Knights of Columbus, to provide Baby Hampers for eight young mothers and their newborns at Villa Rosa.  Thank you to all those who have participated so far, as all of the gift item cards have already been taken by parishioners!

This is our final week to bring in hamper items or to make donations towards the Baby Hampers.  All items must be dropped off this weekend or on Tuesday by office closing time at the latest, as sorting and assembling of the baby hampers will take place on Wednesday morning, May 8th!

The Baby Hampers will be delivered to Villa Rosa on Friday, and distributed to the eight mothers and their newborns in time for Mother’s Day.

Thank you for your support of this special initiative, as together we share in ‘being a part of something great!’

GREETING CARD MINISTRY
An interest has been shown to form a Greeting Card Ministry, to create specially designed and handcrafted greeting cards for various life events.  The goal of this Ministry would be to create cards that would speak of the hope and joy that comes from our Christian faith.  These cards would be available for purchase and all proceeds would go toward the Mission and Ministry of St. Gianna’s Parish.

Registered parishioners who are interested in being a part of forming such a new and creative Ministry, can sign-up using the link found in the flocknote communication.

ST. GIANNA’S HARVEST
COMMUNITY GARDEN INITIATIVE – Sign-up
Opportunities
St. Gianna’s is offering a new initiative to grow and harvest fresh vegetables to be distributed to local organizations that support our vulnerable communities.  At harvest time (August-September), we will organize intake days to bring all the vegetables of our labour to St. Gianna’s, which will then be distributed to organizations such as Missionaries of Charity, Bear Clan, Willow Place, House of Hesed and Bruce Oake Recovery Centre.

There are several ways to participate:
Option 1 is to sign up to grow a row of vegetables in your own garden this summer and then donate the produce to St. Gianna’s Harvest.  We are asking for a row of one of the following vegetables: carrots, onions, beans, peas, tomatoes, or squash.
Option 2 is to support the development of our own garden on-site at St. Gianna’s.  The garden will be built as slightly raised garden beds to accommodate the ground that we have and offer an option for mobility.  Planning for this initiative is underway, but we are asking parishioners to consider making a monetary donation to support developing the land for the garden, purchase garden boxes and planting items, as well as regular maintenance supplies.
Option 3 is to sign-up to assist in maintaining our future on-site garden once it has been built and developed.

To participate in this initiative, please use the button links below or visit the Harvest Ministry table in the narthex after the Sunday liturgy.  When you participate, your name will be proudly displayed on our poster in the narthex as your commitment towards this effort.

This initiative is not limited to parishioners, so please share this opportunity with friends and family who may wish to participate, invite them to sign-up and we can all grow together.

As a parish, we hope to support the community we are called to serve.  We recognize the good work other organizations do to provide for those who may need a helping hand.  Please join us in ‘being a part of something great!’

THE TABERNACLE LAMP
As a mark of reverence and as an indication of the presence of the Blessed Sacrament in the Tabernacle, it has long been required that a lamp, traditionally red in colour, burns perpetually near the tabernacle area. Seeing the burning light, all will immediately know where a sign of reverence, in the form of a bow or genuflection, should be made.

The candles of the Tabernacle Lamps burn for a seven day period and can be offered up in memory of a loved one or as a part of an intercessory prayer for a special need. We are now pleased to offer the Tabernacle Lamps as a part of our ongoing prayerful/devotional response.

At St. Gianna’s we have two Tabernacle Lamps indicating the location of the tabernacle.  One that burns inside the worship space immediately outside the Tabernacle Chapel and one that burns inside of the Chapel itself.

Two new Tabernacle Candles are lit every Saturday and will burn for the duration of the week.  The Intentions for the Tabernacle Candles will be offered in the order they are received and published in our weekly parish ‘flocknote’ email, as well as on our parish website within the Parish Bulletin Board – Liturgy Schedule.

To offer a Tabernacle Candle, please click on the button link below for our online request form.

KNIGHTS OF COLUMBUS

Next General Meeting:  7:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024

Grocery Card Prize Draw Update!
The next draw is scheduled for Sunday, June 30th!
The Knights of Columbus will make TWO draws at the conclusion of the 11:00 a.m. liturgy and each winner will have the choice of either $200 in grocery cards OR a $200 VISA gift card.
For every $200 purchase in grocery cards, you will receive one ballot entry into the draw, (for example: a $400 purchase gives you 2 ballot entries).  Please visit the Knights’ table for more information.

Grocery Card Campaign
Many of us already buy groceries for ourselves or for our families, so why not do it in a way that also benefits our parish and doesn’t cost us anything extra!

St. Gianna’s Knights of Columbus Grocery Card Campaign enables you to do just that!  You continue to buy the groceries you normally would AND help the parish receive a benefit just by using these cards.  It’s that easy!

We have grocery cards for Superstore, Sobeys, Safeway, Fresh Co, No Frills, Foodland and IGA, and are available for purchase in denominations of $25 and $100.  The Knights receive a 5% commission on all grocery cards sold, which is then generously donated to our parish.

We accept cash or debit.  (Unfortunately, credit card service fees absorb most of the benefit we would receive, so it’s best that we accept only debit or cash to maximize our commission potential).

Thank you to all those who continue to participate in the Grocery Card program, it is greatly appreciated!
Please visit the Knights’ table in the Narthex after Sunday Mass and join the effort!
